چکیده

Even though an individual’s knowledge network is known to contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of his or her work in groups, the way that network building occurs has not been carefully investigated. In our study, activities of new product development teams were analyzed to determine the antecedents and consequences on the transactive memory systems, the moderating affect of task complexity was also considered. We examined 69 new product development projects and found that team stability, team member familiarity, and interpersonal trust had a positive impact on the transactive memory system and also had a positive influence on team learning, speed-to-market, and new product success. Further, we found that the impact of the transactive memory system on team learning, speed-to-market, and new product success was higher when there was a higher task complexity. Theoretical and managerial implications of the study findings are discussed. # 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Transactive Memory and Trust Networks in Computer-Supported Teams

The development of transactive memory facilitated by trust relationships and social exchanges is of emerging importance in distributed environments characterized by a lack of rich social presence. Situated at the nexus of research on computer-supported teams, this study examined the effects of trust networks and social presence on transactive memory. The results indicated that dense trust netwo...

The Influence of Subgroup Dynamics on Knowledge Coordination in Distributed Software Development Teams: A Transactive Memory System and Group Faultline Perspective

With the globalization of the software industry, distributed software teams (DSTs) have become increasingly common. Among the various social aspects that are essential to the success of distributed software projects, the focus of this research is the impact of inter-subgroup dynamics on knowledge coordination. To address this research question, we extend and apply theory from two primary source...

Developing Individuals' Transactive Memories of Their Ego-Centric Networks to Mitigate Risks of Knowledge Sharing: The Case of Professionals Protecting CyberSecurity

A memory of who knows what, so called transactive memory, can be an important cognitive structure in facilitating knowledge sharing in situations where successful collaboration depends on simultaneously maximizing sharing while mitigating its risks. We examine the development of transactive memory in crossorganizational networks—or ego-centric networks—that individuals build and maintain in the...

Exploring the Effects of Turnover on Transactive Memory Systems

This paper examines turnover effects on transactive memory (TM) under four task conditions. The first section employs a contingency framework and describes the structural features of knowledge networks and communication networks in TM systems that match each task condition. The second part analyzes the effects of turnover on TM from a network perspective. The findings suggest that, contrary to ...
